Stones mentioned in <2>
Further standing stones might have existed as the remains of the recent fieldwall, into which the stones have been incorporated, contains at least two other sizeable monoliths. <3>
A) SH 62591176: standing stone measuring 2.1m in height, and triangular in section with sides of 0.8m, 0.9m and 0.5m. Packing stones are visible around base.
B) SH 62641176: standing stone measuring 1.5m in height. Rectangular in section measuring 0.6m width and 0.5m in thickness, but pointed at top.
C) SH 62611176: a block of stone measuring 0.6m height, 0.8m in width, and 0.6m in thickness.
D) SH 62581176: this stone measures 1.8m in length, 0.5m in width and 0.4m in thickness. It is incorporated in the structure if the wall. <4>
Several large stones including two quite impressive orthostatic slabs incorporated in a curving rubble field wall of probably post-med date. The smaller stones would be typical in a field wall anyway. The 2 larger stones are set crossways to the line of the wall which suggests they were erected as part of the wall perhaps to delineate the boundary. However, the location parallel to a significant route is similar to 4884 to the South West (Smith 2001).
